‘Grill,’ is an award-winning short film directed by Pratik Kothari about a young homeless man who wiggles his way into a woman’s house every night after she leaves just to have a bed to sleep on. This bleak premise is treated with tender humanity, simple joy and unpretentious reality. The film slips in bouts of happiness into a landscape witheringly aware of how ‘the real world’ works. The slice-of-life approach that Kothari takes is poignantly warm, cynically kind, and romantically real - all contradictions, but ‘Grill’ manages to find its beauty in these reconciled dialectics.
